Momentum seekers x Artist Collaboration

Yengiang Nguyen

Yengiang Nguyen is a versatile visual artist who specializes in painting, illustration and graphic design. Although acrylic painting is her preferred medium, she also likes to work with pencil, ink, watercolor, wood burning, and other inspiring materials. Symbolism is a device frequently found in her works. Using one object to represent another is a strong way to convey certain messages through her surrealistic style. Her artistic creations illuminate diversity, culture, nature, music, women empowerment, self-work, and progression. Each of these subjects have an emotional and personal contribution to her work.

Yengiang wanted to collaborate with Momentum Seekers because she believed in their mission: to “create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive world.” As an Asian American Woman Artist, she has been challenged with racism, inequality due to her gender, and other unnecessary forms of slander. Through her art, she is able to express and share her worldview and what she has learned so far on her journey of life.

Ford Foundation

On behalf of Yengiang, Momentum Seekers will donate a percentage of sales of the "Black & Yellow Power" collection to the Ford Foundation.

The Ford Foundation believes in the inherent diginity of all people. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.

In addressing this reality, the Ford Foundationnis guided by a vision of social justice—a world in which all individuals, communities, and peoples work toward the protection and full expression of their human rights; are active participants in the decisions that affect them; share equitably in the knowledge, wealth, and resources of society; and are free to achieve their full potential.

Collection: "Black & Yellow Power"

Yengiang created an illustration called “Black and Yellow Power.” This piece was inspired by the 1960s movement when the Black Panthers and the Asian Community (Yellow Peril) came together in solidarity to help each other combat police brutality, racism, and other systematic issues that have to do with equality. Yengiang intentionally created cub versions of a panther and a tiger integrated into one. This idea conveys that change starts with the youth and to remind ourselves, how and what we teach our children will become the result of the future.

As of recently, following the death of George Floyd, Asian Americans came together to aid in the Black Lives Matter Movement in 2020, which is reminiscent of the same situation that occurred in the 1960s. Because history was repeating itself, she wanted to create a piece where we can learn from these moments in history and move forward together, in peace.
